The Rise of China is not just a threat to your democracy, it’s a threat to your very western way of life. All the things that you cherish: freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of press, freedom from cruel and unusual punishment, the existence of an independent jurisprudence, the right to trial, etc. All those things, if China is allowed to continue grow unhampered, will become a thing of the past.
The Legalist philosophical underpinning of Xi Jinping: A Communist Dictatorship with Chinese Characteristics
To understand why China is such a threat, especially so under the current president Xi Jinping, we have to examine what Xi himself says about his philosophy of governance.
In one very revealing instance, he asked the question: In China, is the Communist Party above the law or is the law above the Communist Party? This is a question that many have avoided answering, he continued, and in his opinion, it is a false question, because everyone must obey the law, everyone must be equal before the law, and the Party must be the leader of the law, and the Law and the Party are not in an antagonism of each other but are embodiments of each other.
What does that mean? What does this convoluted rhetorical garbage is supposed to convey?
This is actually a direct application of Legalist philosopher Hanfei’s idea of the the law. What this means is while everyone in China must obey the law, even people in the highest cadet of the Chinese Communist Politiburo, only he himself, the absolute ruler, Xi Jinping, is above the law. He is above the Communist Party even. He is the absolute ruler of everyone else.
Xi Jinping has just made himself the Mao Zedong of China and its foreboding for the country, and for the world, is very ominous.
And ever since Xi’s apotheosis as the new dictator-emperor of China, many very stringent and unusual laws have been passed: the few most famous ones are the Anti-Espionage Law, the Anti-Separatist Law, the National Security Law, and—and this is the one of the most chilling one—the Anti-Defamation Law of Chinese War Heroes.
According to the Anti-Defamation Law of Chinese War Heroes, if you speak anything that’s considered derogatory to Chinese War Heroes, you can be fined and imprisoned up to 3 years.
Luo Changping, (罗昌平) a Chinese journalist and businessman, for instance, wrote on his personal blog that “we should reflect on the justification for the Korean war and why such human tragedies in the Korean wars were necessary.” On May 5, 2022, he was indicted and sentenced to 7 months in prison for what he wrote.
There are many more instances and many people just like Luo Changping, who were fined and imprisoned for the most minimal criticism of China, its leaders, its government, or whatever is considered politically correct in China.
The rise of China poses an existential threat to the western way of life.
All this development in China should make you shudder with fear, even if you are living in the western world, because the Chinese government, with its rising economic clout, is reaching and influencing western countries to compromise on grounds regarding human rights, freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom of religion, jurisprudence independence, etc.
The Chinese government is not just oppressing its own people, it’s now spreading authoritarianism all over the world. The small metamorphoses are accumulating in western societies due to Chinese influence without anyone noticing, and then, one fine day, a veritable revolution will take over and you will wake up and realize that you no longer have a democracy. The looming Chinadom that Nietzsche has prophesied over 200 years ago is fast at hand, and yet the people in the west are still in a slumber.
Imagine you wake up and you realize that you have been banned from all social media, and the police are knocking on your doors, and once you are arrested, your house is searched, without a warrant, and once you are in jail, you do not have a trial, and you will simply rot away in jail. And all the most cruel and unusual punishment are meted out to you while you are imprisoned and there will be no one to save you while everyone outside will not even know that you have disappeared.
The Kafkaesque nightmare is what the Chinese government offers. The horrors that you are not aware that goes on on a daily basis in China will one day no longer be confined that part of the world alone.
The Hegelian progression of the world toward an end of all history has proven wrong once again.
What should you do to save yourself and your civilization?
The Chinese threat is very real, and given that it has now the second largest GDP in the world and some technologies that are quickly surpassing America, its threat is very imminent. If you are an American citizen, you should write to your Congressman, your Senator, your leaders in government, etc. to let them know that the American government need to initiate more laws to restrict and contain the rise of China. Pressure China on its human rights violations and there are plenty. Boycott China. Sanction China. Etc. Whatever you need to do. You need to do it now.
For instance, you should ask your government leaders to press China on the release of human rights activist currently jailed in China: Peng Lifa 彭立发 whose brave act on the Sitong Bridge in Beijing led to the eruption of White Paper Revolution in China in 2023.
In other instances, you should ask your government to respond to you regarding what they are doing to stop the Chinese from overreaching into America. I sincerely hope that Americans wake up soon and stop wasting time in the Middle East or in Ukraine because China is the most urgent and imminent threat to the American world order and for the last 20 years or so America has been distracted to many other things and simply didn’t have the time to deal with China. Not to mention that America has been bogged with its own ideological struggles. All this will spell disaster soon if we don’t act.
You will not be happy when your Chinese overlords Xi Jinping and his daughter rule over you and turn the whole world into North Korea.
